Hekau day retreat

A small-group day retreat built around Hekau, the Egyptian practice of spoken sound, with sound sessions, rest and a shared meal.

At a retreat venue

About the journey

A full day with a small group, built around Hekau, the Egyptian practice of spoken sound. Guided sessions with real rest between them rather than a packed timetable, and lunch together in the middle. Most people arrive not knowing anybody and leave having talked properly to strangers. Not medical care, and not a substitute for it.

What the price covers

  • The headphone work only. No hands-on treatment, no oil, nobody undresses
  • You stay fully clothed throughout, this is a group in a room together
  • A full day in a small group
  • Guided Hekau and sound sessions
  • Rest periods between sessions
  • Lunch and refreshments
  • Not medical care, and not a substitute for treatment

Where it comes from

In the Kemetic tradition of ancient Egypt, Sekhem means power, might, or vital force. The practice works with six named centres running up the body, and the session follows that map from the head down and then the length of the back. That is the tradition the work sits in. It is a complementary practice, not medicine, and nothing here is offered as a treatment for any condition.

What the day actually uses

A day is the headphone work, the voice work and the rest between them. There is no hands-on treatment, no oil and no undressing: everyone stays clothed the whole time. The private hands-on Sekhem session belongs to the three-day retreat, where there is an hour for each person.

Infinity D

Headphones, one set each

Everyone hears the same programme at the same level at the same moment, which is the whole point of doing it this way rather than through speakers in a hall.

Voice

Hekau, spoken and sung

Guided vocal work as a group. Nobody is made to perform and nobody is put on the spot.

Rest

Long gaps on purpose

The spaces between sessions are part of the day, not padding between the real bits.

What to expect on the day

Fully clothed, all day

Wear something you can lie down in. No treatment couch, no oil, nothing hands-on.

Mats and blankets provided

Along with the headphones. Bring nothing but yourself.

About six hours

With real breaks, and food depending on the date.

Want the hands-on work?

That is the three-day retreat, where every guest gets a private Sekhem hour, or a one to one Sekhem session at home.
